Helen Nguyen
UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT
Helen was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, and is currently pursuing a degree in Biomedical Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU). A lifelong athlete with a strong foundation in academics and STEM extracurriculars, she developed an early interest in orthopedics through sports, which—along with her family’s background in engineering and healthcare—sparked her broader passion for biomedical research. She brings extensive wet lab experience in cell culture, protein purification, and bioprocessing from high school, and has worked with relaxometry and photoacoustic imaging tools at ASU. She also gained hands-on mechanical experience studying PLLA crystallization during a summer research fellowship at the Kyoto Institute of Technology. Outside the lab, Helen enjoys playing soccer, basketball, tennis, and swimming. She’s a multi-instrumentalist—piano, French horn, trumpet, guitar, drums, and ukulele—and is currently exploring music production. When she’s not in the lab or making music, she’s probably teasing her younger brother (which she considers both a hobby and an art form).
